Rejuvenated Home for Sale in Lake of the Pines, CA

said on May 23rd, 2018 filed under: Lake of the Pines, Localism, Real Estate Nuts and Bolts, Success Stories

Do you remember that thing I said about Refresh & Refurbish? Namely that it exists, and it’s exactly what we did to an older home in Lake of the Pines. After just a month, the work is complete and 11250 Sunset Hills Ct is live on the market! Check out our before and after pictures!

The bushes outside were completely overgrown. They provide so much privacy, but I was worried about branches scratching my car! We had them trimmed and added deer resistant plants; it’s still super private and quiet here, just better maintained.

We felt the front doorway was very masculine and… dark. Really dark. I was honestly surprised how much of a difference paint, new light fixtures, delicate vegetation, and some clean-up can make!

We had a lot of clean-up to do. Our sellers donated so much clothing, furniture, dishes, and everything imaginable. We did not realize how much stuff we had until we needed to move it, but move it we did!

We pulled the records and wallpaper from the ceiling, which made the space feel cramped and small. Then we walled up the hole where the jukebox lived. After paint, a new light, and the removal of the chair lift the entry feels fresh and open. We emptied the stairway of pictures and a huge fern; now it doesn’t feel like you need to duck your head to go downstairs.

We took down so many decorations in the kitchen. After replacing the flooring, changing out the handles, removing the wine rack, and doing a lot of touch-up work, we could really see what it has to offer. There’s tons of storage, a lovely view of the golf course, the beautiful granite counter-tops with plenty of space to cook and entertain.

The dining area really needed the new flooring and contemporary light fixture. The original built-in cabinetry provides more counter space and any wine aficionado will feel right at home here.

More new carpets and light fixtures! The Master Bedroom got lots of TLC. We also painted the recessed shelves to help lighten things up.

The abundant master bath was already nice, but the magenta sinks and bathtub were just too much, so we got them re-enameled. The double sinks, spacious shower stall even has a built-in seat, and the sexy two-sitter bathtub is super luxurious.

Serious question: why would anyone ever carpet a bathroom??? New flooring was an absolute must!!! We also removed some towel racks and painted the mirror in the upstairs bathroom, but the floor was my biggest concern. Luckily the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms both received new flooring.

The bedrooms all received new carpets and touch-up paint. With three bedrooms upstairs and two below, this home offers options for multi-generational living and tons of space.

Speaking of space, there is that garage! Seriously. It’s huge. There’s a two car garage with two workshops, then two golf cart garages. There’s shelves, cabinets, three closets, and a legit storage room. It’s a lot to work with!

The Living Room was a major project. This room is the heart of this home, with panoramic views of the lake and golf course. We removed the shelving over windows, tore off the decorative molding on the ceiling, switched out the carpeting, re-plastered and painted the walls, built benches where the planters used to be, painted the bookshelves, replaced the light, and removed all the distractions: planter boxes, ornate light fixtures, and dark bookshelves. The lightening up and fresh carpet has given the room quite a boost.

The covered and outdoor decks are my favorite. We trimmed three huge oak trees that were really blocking the scenery; now you can see so much more of the lake. It’s such a perfect place to entertain friends and family or just relax in peace and quiet.

This home is so tranquil and private, and it really has so much to offer. It’s been an excellent experience getting to update it and see such progress over over just one month. This will definitely be someone’s happy place!

Bocce Ball is Back for the New Season!!!

said on April 13th, 2018 filed under: Cultural Events, Fun Things to Do Outdoors, Lake of the Pines, Localism, Whimsy

Wow! What a line at Lake of the Pines. What are all these people standing in line for? We don’t stand in lines at LOP! Why would we want that??? That would be ridiculous!

Unless…. there’s photo evidence…..

Each person is a team captain representing 10-12 players. Everyone is hoping to get their team’s favorite night to play…. and the sport is…. BOCCE BALL.

So I guess that’s worth standing in line once.

Last year LOP had 650 registered Bocce Ball players, and this year looks like there may be even more!

Bocce has become one of Lake of the Pine’ favorite pastimes, joining golf, tennis, water skiing, fishing, paddle ball, and . . . well, I could go on and on.  There is something fun happening every day and every night in our beloved community.  We are so doggone lucky to live here!  And if you don’t live here, you should think about it.  Give us a call.  We’ll help you find the perfect home so you can vacation year-round in your own back yard.

Easter is Here!

said on March 30th, 2018 filed under: Cultural Events, Fun Things to Do Outdoors, Lake of the Pines, Localism, Neighborhood Profiles, Whimsy

The LOP Eggstravaganza is this weekend! Everyone will be out at the Sports Lounge at 10 to get things started, then we’ll head out for all the activities!

The free Egg Hunt will be held on the Driving Range; there will be three separate levels for different age groups, so no toddlers have to brawl with the big kids to get any eggs, haha. Ages 0-3 get to start at 10:30, ages 4-7 at 10:40, and ages 8-12 are up at 10:50. Remember to bring your basket!

In front of the Golf Pro Shop you can sign up to play in the putting contest. All ages are welcome to join in and play, there  will be both a junior and adult course. It will be going from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. so be careful not to miss your egg hunting slot.

The Cake Walk starts at 10:30 a.m. on the grass at the Driving Range area. Tickets are $1.00 per turn and you can win a cake (or other dessert)!

Art Instructor Susie Bell will be wrangling the Painting Station, so feel free to stop by and paint a rock or make a wand, or plant a sunflower at our Flower Planting Station. There will also be plenty of free carnival style games to play.

If you start getting hungry, don’t fret, cause a Breakfast Buffet is offered for purchase in the Sports Lounge from 9:30 a.m.  until 11:00 a.m., plus Lunch service starting at 11:00 a.m.

CJ will be doing her Bunny thing again this year, so you’ll see her fully decked out in her costume so the kids can take pictures with the Easter bunny. She’ll be hipping and hopping about, so don’t hesitate to say hi!

Please Welcome John Back to Lake of the Pines, CA

said on March 15th, 2018 filed under: Lake of the Pines, Localism, Success Stories

Please welcome John into our lovely community of Lake of the Pines. He moved away a few years ago, but is now back and super excited to live at the lake again!

Most octogenarians wouldn’t be brave enough to make a move at this time in life, but John really loves living here. He missed all the friendly people, and how quiet and peaceful things are here. He’s looking forward to rejoining SIRs (Sons in Retirement) and the Pinesmen, two of our Men’s goups at Lake of the Pines. Best of all, he’s now just a four minute walk from his daughter and adorable grandkids!

It’s amazing to see him so eager to move into his new home, and we are so glad we could help.

Fire Safe Council Announces Award Recipients
GRASS VALLEY, CA. February 26, 2018. The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County will honor those who have dedicated themselves to helping make our community fire safe during the 11th Annual Culinary Adventure event on April 6, 2018 at the Miners Foundry in Nevada City. The Fire Safe Council is a non-profit, local volunteer-based organization dedicated to making Nevada County safer from catastrophic wildfire through fire prevention education, fire break clearing projects, and creating nationally recognized Firewise Communities USA®. Nominations are solicited, received, and evaluated by a committee of Fire Safe Council directors before selecting those to be honored.
.
.
The Lake of the Pines Association will be honored as the Firewise Community of the Year. Their volunteer member Firewise Community committee has taken bold action to request that vegetation management for wildfire mitigation be placed in the updated Strategic Plan, as well as working with the association’s management team to assess and improve defensible space for all association properties. They have conducted tabletop evacuation exercises, poker-run evacuation drills with residents and continue to provide a disposal method for vegetation within their community to keep hazardous fuels from accumulating near homes. The Association sent staff members to the Defensible Space Advisor training course by the Fire Safe Council to ensure they were doing everything possible to help protect their community from wildfire. They have also implemented a variety of fuel reduction projects in collaboration with the Fire Safe Council and AmeriCorps crews on the ground. Their efforts are an example to be replicated by other Firewise Communities in Nevada County.

Another Home Sold in Lake of the Pines

said on March 1st, 2018 filed under: Lake of the Pines, Success Stories

You remember the Tahoe style home we mentioned a while back, right? Looked a little bit like this? (Or exactly like it, if you wanna be accurate.)

So it’s sold. We’ve recorded, it’s all official and whatnot. We’ll miss the *former* owners in the community, and they know they’ll miss Lake of the Pines, but they’re moving out-of-state to be closer to family. Adventure awaits! (Or maybe that’s grandkids?)

Northridge Restaurant

said on February 28th, 2018 filed under: Lake of the Pines, Localism, Whimsy

So let pretend for a moment…. that you’re hungry. Not the normal kind of hunger, but the deep set, cloying kind of hunger. The kind of hungry where a home cooked meal just doesn’t cut it. You want a restaurant. A good one. And you’re on Combie Road, just outside of Lake of the Pines. Why are you there? Psh, you know why. Or you can make up a reason. Both are fine by me.

So what now?

Where do you go?

I’ll tell you.

You go to Northridge Restaurant, just off Combie, right by the CVS. Because you have taste. Or you want to. Again, both work.

Haha, but seriously, they’re great. They have incredible pizzas, salads, burgers, whatever. Last time I went I got a Popeye’s Pizza and a salad to split with some friends; we all left stuffed and satisfied. And with leftovers to boot.

This isn’t the Popeye Pizza, but it’s a solid example of a Northridge Pizza. We were too enamored with eating ours to take any pictures of it… Are we doing it wrong?

If you’re in the area and looking for grub, check it out. They hold events and such, they support Bear River Grad Night and certain charities, they’re local, and (of course!) the food is great. Good enough for me!
